The popularity of unlocked phones is on the rise. More and more people are switching over because nothing beats the freedom of an unlocked phone. Going unlocked gives you a much greater choice when it comes to models, carriers, and plans. Not being tied to a specific carrier or contract gives you the power to shop phones as often or infrequently as you like. When it comes to international travel, you just can’t beat an unlocked phone.
The more I hear about these phones and the more I learn, the more I want to switch over. The last time I was at Best Buy I was due for an upgrade and asked the associate a lot about unlocked phones while I was getting mine switched over. Using a less expensive data or voice plan over the course of two years will even things out. Especially if you are using older voice, text, and data plans. I had to throw away a really sweet plan once to get a new phone. If unlocked phones were an option back then, I would have made the switch and saved big.
When it comes to international students. tourists, and business travelers you can’t beat the flexibility of unlocked phones. International roaming rates can eat you alive. Buying an unlocked phone for traveling overseas can save you a ton of money. Wherever you are, you will pay the same rate as the locals do. It’s as simple as buying an unlocked phone here in the US and buying a local SIM card when you reach your destination. Is that awesome or what?
I especially like the idea of phones like the BLU Studio G. This bad boy can house up to two SIM cards. What that means is you can use and maintain a line for work and personal use on the same device. No more carrying two phones. How incredible!
