Clean the World is looking for volunteers to help assemble disaster-relief hygiene kits for Haiti and areas up and down the east coast hit hardest by Hurricane Matthew. If you are available between the hours of 8am to 8pm Monday through Thursday, Friday 9 to 3 or Saturday till noon, drop on by, fill out a waiver, grab some gloves, and get to helping.

Hurricane Matthew left at least 900 people dead and thousands of others homeless in Haiti. Clean the World is hoping their effort will save lives by helping to stem a cholera outbreak. Although officials in Haiti are doing everything they can to fight the disease, since Matthew hit, at least 13 people have died from cholera. Flooding and contaminated water are posing a huge threat to thousands of children in Haiti. Just being able to wash up could mean the difference between life and death.

I thought it was really interesting how it all works. I must have had a million questions that were more than happily answered. Everybody that works here is so awesome! I had a great time helping out and think their organization is incredible!

Volunteering at Clean the World is fun and appropriate for both kids and adults. Volunteers have to be at least 8 years old. Children 8 through 15 require supervision by a parent or guardian and a signed waiver is required for all participants regardless of age. Clean the World welcomes individual volunteers, corporate groups, churches, families, schools, and clubs. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand!

In the short time I was there, I saw people of all ages helping out. From the moment I pulled in the parking lot, I felt welcomed and appreciated. I was greeted and told exactly what to do. First thing everyone interested in participating needs to do is sign the waiver on the desk at the front door. Then they will tell you where to go. I suggest helping out wherever you are needed.

My task was sorting and packing soap. It was a job that smelled pretty good too. After the soap is dumped on the table you pick out the good ones, make sure it’s clean, put the soap in a box lined with wax paper, and place your filled box on a roll-cart to be taped. Then it is ready to be shipped.

The work is easy and anyone can do it. As long as you can stand and move your body you are good to go. Some of the people I worked with had been there since first thing in the morning. Everyone had such great work ethic and made it an incredible experience. After I got home and told my son about it, he begged me to go. He loves doing volunteer work and I think things like this are great for kids. I really love what Clean the World is doing. Thank you for opening your doors and letting me help!
